Merillville was once a stop for covered wagons but now this town of slightly over 35,000 is a destination for shoppers who visit the major retail locations and the enormous Westfield Southlake Mall. Merrillville hosts hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues such as the Star Plaza Theater. It is also a hotbed of technology and research.
